How Helmkind works

A kind, private way to change a habit you no longer want: a tool for the hard moment, five minutes a day, a plan you write yourself and a small crew.

Helmkind works in four parts. Pause helps you ride out an urge in three minutes. A 12-week course teaches one small skill a day. Your plan decides on a calm day what you will do in a hard moment. A small anonymous crew means you are not doing it alone.

Press Pause

When an urge rises, Pause walks you through the next three minutes. Free, for good, and it works offline. Try Pause on the web.

Five minutes a day

One small skill at a time, for twelve weeks. You choose the goal: stop completely, cut down, or wait until marriage.

A plan for hard moments

If-then plans written on a calm day, so you don't have to decide in a storm. Your harbour: the few people you trust.

A crew that gets it

Six members on the same course and a trained first mate. Nicknames only, moderated, and no open forum.

What is in the twelve-week course?

The course is built on acceptance and commitment therapy and prevention planning, in five-minute sessions. It has twelve ports:

  1. Why I am here
  2. My compass
  3. Mapping my cycle
  4. What struggling has cost
  5. Riding the wave
  6. Thoughts are not orders
  7. Designing my surroundings
  8. Feeling what I avoid
  9. From shame to growth
  10. Connection
  11. My prevention plan
  12. The life I am building

What happens if I slip?

Nothing is taken away. Your days on course never go back to zero. You look at what happened, change one thing in your plan, and carry on.

Can it include my faith?

If you want it to. Helmkind offers a short daily reflection for Christians, for Muslims, or shaped by your own tradition. Every one starts from mercy. About the faith pathways.

Who can see what I write?

Nobody at Helmkind. Your logbook and plan are locked on your phone, and Helmkind never asks for your email, phone number or real name. How privacy works.

What does Helmkind not claim?

Helmkind is a self-help app, not treatment, and it cannot promise an outcome. No study of Helmkind itself exists yet. The methods it uses have been tested in published trials, listed on the research page. Some people need more than an app; the app says when it is worth seeing a professional.
