Helmkind is a self-help app for adults who want to change a sexual habit such as pornography, masturbation or sex outside their commitments. It is built on acceptance and commitment therapy, with skills from cognitive behavioural therapy, and it lets each person choose their own goal.
Why was Helmkind built this way?
Many apps in this space count days, block content and motivate through fear. The research behind Helmkind found those to help least, and a counter that drops to zero can deepen shame. So Helmkind works differently:
- Toward, not away. The goal is the life you want, not only what you are running from.
- You choose the goal. Stop, cut down, or wait until marriage; with faith or without.
- Compassion over shame. Firm about values, gentle with the person. A slip is information, and it never erases progress.
- Never alone. Small moderated crews and trained first mates, never an open forum.
- Private by design. No real name, email, phone number, contacts, location or photos, ever.
- Claim only what the data show. Helmkind does not promise results.
Who is behind Helmkind?
Helmkind is made by a small team. Faith reflections are reviewed by people from each tradition before they are shown.
